After fusion bands made it big in India its the turn of metal bands to show their talent. As access to recording facilites is getting easier and social networking sites are being used for publicity, Indian metal artists are finally getting noticed
Indian metal bands, straining to be heard, are now finally making quite a noise. So no more garage performances. The market has matured and people are sitting up and taking notice.
Indian metal is doing a lot better as compared to a few years back. For starters, the bands have original matter, composing original music as well as touring extensively. In the year 2000 there were no bands playing original music, whereas in 2008, 10 bands lined up for release of metal alone.
Another reason that is giving Indian metal bands a push is the availability of affordable recording space like this bedroom/studio that offers competitive and very tempting rates.
The keyword for success? Affordability. Studios like this charge per song as against per hour like the bigger recording studios. And, as they say, practice makes one perfect, right? What helps in cutting these costs are social networking sites which offer inexpensive and effective promotions taking the music to a global platform.
No wonder established bands like Mumbai-based Pin Drop Violence and Demonic Resurrection have seen a surge in album sales reaching upto 1,000 within six months of release.
According to Bobin James, Rolling Stones, Assistant Editor, "While earlier, it could cost more than a lakh to cut an album, today you could do it for Rs 80,000. And that's a whole lot for a band looking to hit the right note. Time to get into the spotlight or should we say mosh pit?
